A sheriff issued a statement after a driver was allegedly caught with a bong install in his dashboard after a pursuit. THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. - A sheriff issued a statement after a driver was allegedly caught with a bong built into his dashboard after two police pursuits.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received information that two suspects were traveling north on an interstate from Lewis County after a series of thefts in which stolen bags from one store were used to take merchandise from another. Authorities said the pair were also suspected in a theft in Lacey, Washington several days earlier. A deputy spotted the vehicle in Olympia, and the driver fled before emergency lights were activated, per the sheriff's post. Deputies initiated a pursuit but quickly terminated it after an unsuccessful attempt to stop the vehicle due to safety concerns as it entered downtown at high speeds. A second pursuit was later initiated when deputies located the vehicle again, but it was also terminated as the driver allegedly continued to drive recklessly through intersections. The vehicle was later found abandoned. Deputies, including a K-9 unit, tracked and located two suspects walking in a nearby neighborhood. Both were taken into custody. The female suspect was turned over to Centralia police in connection with organized retail theft, authorities said. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and reportedly recovered thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise from multiple businesses, along with methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl.
