Auburn University students make up a large number of the 76 arrests for underage drinking during the first eight days of spring break in Destin, Florida, WKRG is reporting.
The age of those arrested ranges from 18-20, with Okaloosa County Sgt. Kyle Corbitt telling the television station most of those arrested are either Auburn students or locals.
“We do the zero-tolerance because places like Panama City Beach,” Corbitt said. “They basically banned alcohol so we’ve begun this so we don’t have an incident like what happened in Panama City Beach several years ago. We don’t want any sexual battery on the beach, or fights involving guns and knives and stuff like that.”
Extra deputies are on patrol for 12-hour shifts, Corbitt said, with a focus on preventing underage drinking during the day to avoid additional problems during the nighttime hours. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
