U.S. immigration authorities began expelling Venezuelans held at Texas detention centers, transferring hundreds to Ciudad Juárez. Many interviewed said they had entered the United States before the new immigration measure was announced.

In August, that number had been about 25,000, DHS data shows. Under the measures announced Wednesday, Venezuelans who walk or swim across the border and between ports of entry, without authorization, will be immediately returned to Mexico. In August, Venezuelans became the second largest nationality arriving at the U.S. border after Mexicans.
