A 'hazardous situation' was affecting the west side of the base located near 32nd Street and Harbor Drive, Naval Base San Diego said.
Naval Base San Diego was back to operations as usual following a brief shelter-in-place order Tuesday. The U.S. Navy had directed Sailors to shelter-in-place around 10 a.m. due to a"hazardous situation.
" Just before 11 a.m., an all-clear was given, although the Navy did not provide details regarding what prompted the lockdown.The shelter-in-place affected the west side of the base located near 32nd Street and Harbor Drive, according to a statement from Naval Base San Diego. All personnel were directed to Naval Base San Diego stretches about 326 acres along San Diego Bay, and is homeport to 60 Navy ships and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to the Navy. It is not clear how many personnel are typically on base within the area affected by the order: Gates 2-7 and Piers 1-5., but there is no indication that the hazardous situation was related.
