But the foreign secretary refused to criticise Berlin for not authorising their release after a meeting of defence ministers on Friday. He added it was for ‘every sovereign government to decide how they are best able to support the Ukrainians as a member of Nato’. Germany makes a big contribution to hosting refugees as well as sending military equipment and aid, Mr Cleverly said.Germany has said it has not made a decision on Leopards, which could be provided in greater numbers. Countries including Poland own them and want to send them, but Berlin retains a veto.
