'Honestly, she’s just starving and I’m just losing it. There is no update, nothing from the Government, nothing from the MP, no one is willing to help' A Sudanese man living and working in the UK on his growing concern for his wife stuck in Sudan
People who remain in Sudan, many of whom are sheltering at home, are running out of food and basic necessities.
“She’s living on one meal a day. There are no supermarkets open, nothing at all. It’s just getting harder and harder. I’m just desperate,” Mr Ahmed said. “Now there’s a lack of food. Basically she’s starving. I never could have imagined this could happen to my wife. She’s just living on flour and sauce. This is food that was already stored in the house and even this will soon finish. I don’t think they will manage more than a week.
Ms Hamid would have faced the one-and-a-half-hour drive to the Wadi Saeedna airfield, located outside Khartoum, alone if she attempted to board an evacuation flight without her passport.Another vital resource – fuel – is becoming more difficult to access in Sudan, further limiting the options people desperate to flee have.
Mr Ahmed said he has received no support, despite pleading with the Government to allow his wife and various others in the same situation to have access to UK evacuation flights.: “We are evacuating British Nationals and their immediate family members who have existing eligibility to enter the UK, and have so far evacuated 2,122 people on UK evacuation flights.
