She Fest celebrates strength of LGBTQ women and non-binary people
Normal Street in Hillcrest was awash in smiles and rainbows Saturday as She Fest 2022, the annual celebration of LGBTQ women and nonbinary people, kicked off Pride Week festivities.
, She said the clinic pairs students with licensed attorneys to help people get names and genders changed legally.Gini Mann-Deibert, one of the She Fest organizers, said that after the U.S. Supreme Court revoked a pregnant woman’s federal constitutional right to an abortion, many in the LGBTQ community are bracing themselves for attempts to take away other rights, such as the right to gay marriage.
One of the first workshops on Saturday was “Explore Kink: Enhance Your Sex Life.” Open to people 16 and over, the class focused on the importance of consent and open communication when engaging in sexual exploration. There were also food trucks, including a coffee truck called “Hot Bevs,” and tents for organizations such as America’s Finest City Softball League and a women’s choral group. People of all ages attended the event and many brought their dogs.
