Shazam: Fury of the Gods' Billy Batson actor Asher Angel expressed his excitement for James Gunn and Peter Safran's 10-year DCU plan.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Asher Angel, who plays the young version of Billy Batson, discusses his excitement about James Gunn's 10-year plan for the DC Universe. The DCU is going forward in an exciting new direction as DC Studios was launched at the start of November. Gunn and his co-CEO Peter Safran together will take charge of the DC brand with television, movies, and animation for the next few years.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With Shazam! Fury of the Gods set to be the first new DCU film of 2023, one of its stars has opened up about DC Studios and Gunn and Safran's 10-year DCU plan. In a recent interview with Josh Wilding, Asher was asked about his thoughts on the new leadership behind DC Studios and where they are going in the future. The 20-year-old Billy actor had nothing but praise for Safran and Gunn coming in to take the DCU in a new direction.
"Man, I feel really good with Peter [Safran] and James coming on board. I mean, they’re obviously super talented, and super passionate and, I love how they’re creating this 10-year plan. And I think the DC Universe is going to be… there’s a lot of special movies to come and I’m just ready for Shazam to be integrated with some other superhero movies.
Besides an inevitable Shazam! 3, assuming Shazam! Fury of the Gods performs well next year, the organic next step for the character is to start appearing in other DCU franchises. With the Justice League seemingly on its way to coming back together in the DCU, joining the team would be great for Shazam. Then there is the obvious showdown that many have been waiting to see, which is Black Adam vs. Shazam, with Dwayne Johnson taking on Levi's DC hero at last.
In the end, it will likely depend on how Shazam! Fury of the Gods does at the box office and with critics and audiences to determine where these characters will go in the DCU. It's possible that if Shazam! 3 gets greenlit and allows the trilogy to be wrapped up, Gunn and Safran will proceed with involving Levi's character in other DCU films once his movie series is complete.
