to her first baby just a few months ago, but in a new Instagram post, Shay shared that the two are "breast friends."to Instagram with the caption "breast friends," showing a totally natural but much-stigmatized part of motherhood. In the photo, Shay is in full hair and makeup, wearing an open green garment and making eye contact with the camera as she feeds her baby.
While breastfeeding is totally natural, it remains a source of stigma for many moms. Whether they face rude stares or comments for breastfeeding in public, or undue shame for not breastfeeding their baby, it sometimes feels like moms just can't win. That's why pictures like Shay's are so important — seeing images of breastfeeding normalizes it, even though we should be past the point of needing to normalize a bodily function in 2019.
Just two hours after posting the photo, Shay had racked up more than 1.4 million likes, and nearly 7,000 comments. Many flooded her comments with support and admiration, including Emily Ratajkowski and Hilary Duff. Others lauded her for taking a step to "normalize breastfeeding," calling her "powerful" and "iconic."
