Jake Middleton on James Reimer: “What he’s doing for us right now, we couldn’t ask for much more.”
SAN JOSE — The Sharks are leaning on their top players more than ever right now as they try to keep alive their flickering playoff hopes.
Reimer made three saves in overtime, including one on Brock Nelson, sticking his glove out as he was down on the ice to rob the Islanders forward, who had a mostly empty net to shoot at. With Adin Hill still bothered by a lower-body injury, Thursday marked Reimer’s 10th straight start, a stretch that now includes five games that have gone into overtime. Since a forgettable 7-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Jan. 22, Reimer has gone 2-3-4 with a respectable .913 save percentage. The Sharks play on Saturday and Sunday against the Boston Bruins and Seattle Kraken, and after Thursday’s game, coach Bob Boughner wouldn’t rule out playing Reimer in both games.
