The San Jose Sharks fell to the Boston Bruins in a 6-3 defeat, extending their losing streak against the Bruins to 14 games. Despite a strong effort from Will Smith with a goal and an assist, the Sharks couldn't overcome the Bruins' offensive firepower.

The San Jose Sharks ' struggles against the Boston Bruins continued on Monday afternoon. What was shaping into a heartwarming return to Boston for several Sharks players turned into another painful loss as Charlie Coyle scored two goals in less than six minutes in the third period, leading the Bruins to a 6-3 victory at TD Garden.

Will Smith had a goal and an assist in his New England homecoming, and goalie Yaroslav Askarov made 27 saves, but the Sharks have now lost 14 consecutive games to the Bruins dating back to the 2015-16 season. After Coyle's go-ahead goal with 5:49 left in regulation, Brad Marchand and Elias Lindholm added empty-net goals to seal the win, marking the Sharks' sixth loss in seven games. Fabian Zetterlund and Barclay Goodrow also scored for the Sharks, now winless against the Bruins (0-12-2) since March 15, 2016. San Jose's last victory in Boston occurred on November 17, 2015.With the Sharks trailing 2-1 midway through the second period, Smith intercepted the puck from Jonathan Beecher, executed a give-and-go with Mikael Granlund, and beat Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo with a wrist shot. Following a Sharks penalty kill, Smith again capitalized on a turnover, setting up Zetterlund for a goal that gave the Sharks a 3-2 lead. The Sharks had opportunities to extend their advantage but failed to convert on a third-period power play. Defenseman Jake Walman missed an open net, and Korpisalo stopped Collin Graf's follow-up attempt. The Sharks had been struggling offensively, scoring only one goal in four of their past five games. Smith's goal, his seventh of the season, ended a 10-game scoreless streak, while Zetterlund's goal, his 13th, was his second in his last 15 games. Monday's game was a homecoming for Smith, fellow Sharks players Collin Graf and Henry Thrun, and coach Ryan Warsofsky, all Massachusetts natives. Center Macklin Celebrini (Boston University) and Mario Ferraro (UMass-Amherst) also attended college in the state
