Nico Sturm and Steven Lorentz make preseason debuts for San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.
SAN JOSE – Two revamped forward lines meant to add some grit to the San Jose Sharks’ lineup were on display Tuesday night in a preseason game with the Anaheim Ducks.
Sharks coach David Quinn liked how his team played in the first 10 minutes Tuesday when the Sharks had a 2-0 lead, but that the group’s attention to detail slipped later in the first period. The three players should stabilize the Sharks’ bottom-six forward group with their two-way play, help slot other forwards in their proper places, and prevent the team from promoting players to the NHL before they’re ready.“I think some of the guys that are new here play with a lot of that grit, and have a little bit of an edge to their game,” Kunin said Sunday after the Sharks’ 3-2 win over the Kings.
“I’m excited to play with some new players and a change of scenery might be nice,” said Lorentz, who had eight goals and 13 points in 67 games for Carolina last season. “I’m just going to focus on how goals are scored in this league and in our role and that’s going to the net and being gritty down low, and just keeping it simple.”
