Shaqir O’Neal, the son of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, is making a significant move in his collegiate basketball career. According to On3, O’Neal is leaving Florida A&M University and entering the NCAA transfer portal. The junior forward averaged 6.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season with the Rattlers, starting 17 of 29 games. This wouldn't be the first time O'Neal has transferred during his college journey.
He previously spent two years at Texas Southern University before joining Florida A&M. During his time with the Tigers, he appeared in 41 games, with only two starts.O'Neal was rated as a three-star high school recruit, as noted on Florida A&M's athletics website. The O'Neal family boasts a rich basketball legacy. Shaq, his father, achieved immense success in the NBA, winning four championships and earning 15 All-Star selections. Shaqir's brother, Shareef O'Neal, also pursued a basketball career, playing at UCLA and LSU before joining the NBA G League. Following in the family tradition, Shaq’s youngest daughter, Me'Arah O'Neal, signed with the Florida Gators in 2023, making her debut during the 2024-25 season.
