"I think Donald Trump's attacks speak volumes about the kind of coward that he is, about his own failings and say nothing about the great qualifications of the vice president," Shapiro said following a ceremonial signing of a house bill at Cheyney University, which is the nation’s first historically Black college and university.Wednesday during a heated exchange at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.
"She happened to turn Black and wants to be known as Black," he said. "I don't know. Is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn't because she was Indian all the way and all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person and I think somebody should look into that, too."
Harris' team later issued a statement, saying Trump showed "exactly who he is" during the interview. The statement didn't address race, but said: “The hostility Donald Trump showed on stage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office, and throughout his campaign for president as he seeks to regain power and inflict his harmful Project 2025 agenda on the American people," according to the statement.
