In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings 1, it's revealed that the Ten Rings are darker and more corrupting than anyone guessed. They have their own agenda with the intent of turning their wielders evil over time.
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Shang-Chi series, the new versions of the Ten Rings are far more sinister. Resembling the same Rings seen in the MCU, Shang-Chi is unsure he can wield the powerful new weapons long sought after by his late father. While it's unclear if the live-action versions are the same, this new preview confirms that the comics' Ten Rings have a mind of their own .
In Marvel's previous Shang-Chi series from Gene Luen Yang and Marcus To, the martial arts hero embraced his new title as Supreme Commander of the Five Weapons Society, a role inherited from his villainous father Zheng Zu. However, the series also saw Shang-Chi and his siblings staging a rescue mission to save his mother from the realm of Ta-Lo, the home of the Jade Emperor and his legendary Ten Rings.

While there's clearly more about the Ten Rings that have yet to be revealed, the comic book versions appear to be eviler than the MCU ones they're based on. As such, Shang-Chi's rejection of the Rings is more than understandable. That being said, perhaps Shang-Chi will be able to bend the Rings to his will, making them a force for good just like he did with Marvel's Five Weapons Society.
At any rate, Marvel's new Shang-Chi series should prove to be an epic new chapter for one of the MCU's newest heroes. While the addition of the new Ten Rings is a byproduct of Marvel's intentional synergy between the comics and films, it's definitely one of the most exciting examples of it in action. The full Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #1 releases on July 20th.
