The idea of a Greens politician running a government in Australia seems like a far-fetched notion, but Shane Rattenbury says he wants to be ACT chief minister.
Shane Rattenbury says Canberra ns are not being served by Labor or Liberal and he wants to fill the void this election Shane Rattenbury says Canberra ns are not being served by Labor or Liberal and he wants to fill the void this electionIn a country dominated by Labor and Liberal, they play a role as the young sibling vying for a seat at the table. In this jurisdiction, the leader of the Greens, Shane Rattenbury , has been in cabinet for 12 years, and holds significant sway.
"It's not the most likely outcome, but I guess the point we were trying to make to the community is there is another choice."Their view is that Labor have been in power long enough, and there's a mood for change."People are being left behind, and what we see from the Labor Party in particular that's so frustrating they're really just tweaking at the edges.
And while boredom may certainly be a factor, whether that is enough to cause major change at the voting booth come October 19 is another matter. But the Greens face an asymmetric challenge in 2024 brought about by the geographic distribution of the party's support across the ACT, and how this interacts with the Hare-Clark quota.
The Liberals want to continue with land releases on the urban fringe, and recently announced plans to develop housing in Kowen Forest if they're elected. With housing affordability now a major issue at every level of government, Mr Rattenbury says their goal would be to increase density and reduce the reliance of residents on their cars.
"We think it is appropriate to borrow, to invest in productive assets and housing is one of those things."Another question on the table is whether Mr Rattenbury will serve again as attorney-general.
