Bieber worked around a leadoff double by Yainer Diaz and an infield hit by Grae Kessinger in the fifth to neutralize Houston’s only real scoring threat. “He has that cutter that he can use where he can make it bigger into the slider,” Francona said. “He commanded his fastball up in the zone by design. With José Ramírez getting the day off, Giménez and Bell stepped in to provide the Guardians with some early muscle. Facing Astros starter Brandon Bielak in the second, Giménez drilled his fourth home run to the seats in right with Josh Bell aboard to give Bieber a 2-0 lead. It was Giménez’s first home run in 92 at-bats since May 13.
But Giménez was not around for the end of the game after exiting in the top of the sixth with tightness in his left leg. The Guardians said the move to take Giménez out was precautionary. Giménez appeared to feel something in the leg after hitting a deep fly ball to center field in his second at-bat. He was replaced by Tyler Freeman at second base.
