Shakira has revealed that she put her "career on hold" to support her ex-partner, former professional footballer, Gerard Pique . The couple, who share two sons together, Sasha, 9, and Mila, 11, announced their split in June 2022 after being together for 11 years. As she prepares to release her first album in seven years, the Grammy-winning singer shared how it helped her deal with some personal issues.
Speaking about the time since her last album, El Dorado, was released in 2017, she told The Times: "For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football." She added: "There was a lot of sacrifice for love." In recent years, Shakira has also been dealing with a tax dispute with Spanish authorities. They claimed she didn't pay more than 14.5 million euro (£13 million) between 2012 and 2014. In November, she settled the case by accepting the charges and paying a fine of over £6 million.
