IN PICTURES | Shaka Ilembe wins big at the 2024 Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards
Mzansi Magic drama series telling the story of Shaka scooped three awards which were won by Thembinkosi Mthembu for best actor in TV for his role as Dingiswayo, Ziya Xulu for best newcomer actress as well as Dylan Lloyd for best production design.Talented creators and storytellers born in KwaZulu-Natal were given recognition this film month by Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards in partnership with KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority.
I did not expect the award...I watched Wiseman’s performance on Shaka Ilembe and Uzalo, he was brilliant. We actually laughed about the nominations, we asked why we were nominated in the same category just the two of us. We said whoever will win, the award will be for the both of us. Nonhle Thema’s mother, the iconic Cynthia Shange who played MaNkosi, Thandaza’s mother on Muvhango was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.The awards were hosted by the talented Nomalanga Shozi who gave us three outfit changes, and it seemed like black and gold was the theme she chose for the night. She hosted alongside a bot named Nokwazi which was voiced by actress Lerato Mvelase – something about embracing technology and AI, story for another day.
