Bulldogs decide it with long pass from Tables to Porter with 1:52 remaining
Romelo Tables of Shabazz rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown and he threw a fourth-quarter scoring pass to Daveion Porter Friday in the North 1, Group 2 quarterfinals against Caldwell.Even though the Shabazz ground attack had far outdistanced its passing game for three-plus quarters, the Bulldogs did find themselves in a throwing situation on third-and-long and trailing by three points with under two minutes to play.
When questioned about the heart and drive needed to reach the end zone there against an unwilling defense, Porter sort of shrugged it off just as he had would-be tacklers. The chip had been placed there Oct. 10, when Caldwell traveled to Shabazz Stadium in Newark to take on the Bulldogs on their Senior Night. Caldwell controlled the chains with its running attack and kept the Shabazz offense quiet to pull off a 21-6 win that night.
