According to former Prasa board chair Sfiso Buthelezi in his final submission to the commission, there is compelling evidence that his successor Popo Molefe was no corruption-buster.
Furthermore, Molefe had fingered Buthelezi for threatening to resign “immediately” when Molefe took over the reins as board chair.
Buthelezi accepted the retraction but was still not pleased that Molefe continued to present himself as a “state capture buster”. Molefe, during his final appearance at the inquiry hit back at Buthelezi. “I do not need validation that I am a state capture buster. I mean that is a matter for public record, so I do not need validation,” Molefe said last month.Buthelezi was persistent and wanted to have the last word.
“Mr Molefe was a beneficiary of that appointment [of personal bodyguards]. What does he say about the irregularity of that appointment? Also, he does not state who is the person at Prasa who made that irregular appointment and whether any risk assessment was carried out for purposes of arriving at the conclusion that his life was in danger.
