Supervisor Connie Chan sponsored a bill, adopted unanimously on Tuesday, that reestablishes a graffiti advisory board

In parts of San Francisco, it can feel as though nary a single restaurant parklet is without a splattering of graffiti.

The legislation, if signed by Mayor London Breed, will restore The City’s graffiti advisory board, which was created in 1993 but allowed to sunset in 2022. Chan included language in the bill that requires the advisory board to meet at least once every four months and prompts the city attorney to prepare legislation that will terminate the board if it fails to meet that standard.

How San Francisco can use autonomous vehicles for greater good There are real issues to be tackled with AVs — but there are also real benefits that can come with them “Graffiti has been a huge issue in our restaurant community and other businesses across The City,” Amy Cleary of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association testified before the supervisors’ Rules Committee this month. “We believe the reestablishment of the advisory board would be a step in the right direction to address the overwhelming number of complaints and concerns.”

The City has also provided small grants to nearly 800 businesses to help ameliorate graffiti and other vandalism totaling $1 million since 2021, The Chronicle reported this week.
