Giants, Padres combine to hit 11 home runs in MLB’s highest-elevation game ever.
MEXICO CITY — Even a home run trot can be tiring a mile and a half above sea level, and there were plenty of test cases Saturday in the Giants’ 16-11 loss to the Padres. But perhaps none more visceral than Brandon Crawford, who did it twice in the span of two pitches.
Crawford was called back to home plate after rounding the bases for his first time, after his curving line drive down the right field line was initially ruled a home run but was determined to be foul upon replay review. Only moments later, he was touching all four again, after driving the next pitch he saw well over the wall in left-center.“I actually got some water during the replay,” Crawford said. “I feel like that one would’ve been gone at sea level. I hit that one pretty good.
Sean Manaea, who started for the Giants, compared it to Colorado. But not Denver — Vail, the mountain resort town. “I’ve never seen anything like that before,” said catcher Blake Sabol, who contributed one of the Giants’ five homers. “I was just talking with Joc , too, and a lot of these guys who have played more games than I have and it’s the first of its kind for sure.”
