Webb said the White Sox shortstop was yelling at him from the dugout ‘for like five straight pitches’ prior to his ejection.

As Webb began his motion, Anderson began walking away from the batter’s box. He had his back turned as the 83-mph changeup crossed the plate and entered the glove of Roberto Pérez, and Reyburn rung up the third strike. If Anderson had tried to call time, it wasn’t granted by the umpire, and it would have resulted in an automatic strike, anyway, under the new rules.

If he was upset that he wasn’t set up in the box when Webb began his motion, the Giants starter refuted that claim. “I was up on the mound, Roberto gave me the pitch call. Even during the pitch call, he was looking at me,” Webb said. “So I knew he was looking at me. I even stopped halfway through my windup, or kind of stopped, I don’t know if I really did or not. I thought it was going to be called time. At that point, I’m not going to step off and get a balk or a ball called on myself, so I kind of just lobbed one in there.

Anderson seemed to signal to the umpire that he hadn’t given his attention to Webb, before stalking back to the dugout. But he wasn’t done. As Webb fired three strikes past the next batter, Luis Robert Jr., Anderson continued chirping from the dugout railing.
