The Giants and Padres were forced to wait for 40 minutes for the lights to properly illuminate the field of play.

SAN FRANCISCO — The lights went down in the city Monday night, at possibly the most inconvenient time and setting.

Giants starter Carlos Rodón had taken the mound and tossed a few warm-up pitches on a darkened field before umpires conferred with both dugouts and suspended play. The issue with the lights, which was resolved around 8:30 p.m. PT, was not immediately clear but the non-illuminated field of play began to become a hazard for players.
