“No, but there’s a coffee machine close enough,” Wotus said with a smile in the Giants’ clubhouse after Wednesday night’s Wotus confirmed his passion for the Giants will lure him into the home dugout this season, and possibly a couple of road trips when he’s not also moonlighting as an NBC Sports Bay Area analyst. “It just felt right to go back in for now and see where it goes,” said Wotus, a Giants assistant from 1993-2021 under managers Dusty Baker, Felipe Alou and Bruce Bochy, many of those years as bench coach. We left it as simple, like, ‘If you’re here and able to be in the dugout and want to be in the dugout …’ “It makes us a better club, in my opinion, if he’s in there,” Vitello added. “It makes it a more fun time, too, to be honest with you, unless you’re losing 7-0.” As for gathering a first impression of Vitello’s pro debut, Wotus described him as calm and under control, saying “He did everything he could do and the staff could do, and it just wasn’t our day.” That “our” reflects Wotus’ allegiance, and Vitello dubbed him a “big part” of this organization. Look, I’m happy to help in any capacity that I can. You guys know I’m a Giant, I want us to win, I want us to be the best we can,” Wotus said. “As far as with Tony, it’s an Italian thing: He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.
