Alex Cobb will get the nod in the Giants’ first game at Oracle Park; Estrada is expected back Thursday after fouling ball off his calf.

CHICAGO — The Giants love to keep their pitching plans a secret, but manager Gabe Kapler said he understands the significance of Friday’s home opener, so he indulged the question Wednesday morning and announced who will get the the ball in the first game at Oracle Park.

After taking a comebacker off his knee in spring training, it wasn’t certain Cobb would be ready for his first start of the season. Because of the two-week break in spring, Cobb was operating on a pitch count and exited with two outs in the fourth inning. Working around his own defensive blunder, airmailing a would-be double-play ball into center field, Cobb allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six in a 7-5 win at Yankee Stadium.
