City Attorney David Chiu vowed to defend The City after Trump’s victory on Tuesday
On Tuesday morning, San Francisco was excited at the prospect of having one of its own former leaders elected president.
Chiu told The Examiner on Wednesday morning that he and the attorneys in his office will “use every legal tool at our disposal to defend our city.” San Francisco and Trump were routinely at odds during his first tenure in office, and new legal battles are likely to at least partially mirror those of the past. Under former City Attorney Dennis Herrera, San Francisco was the first city in the nation to sue Trump’s administration in 2017 to block an order that would have withheld federal funding from sanctuary cities.
