SexAndTheCity star Kristin Davis says she intends to use the show as a 'teaching tool' for her daughter when she's older. 'I don't want her to feel embarrassed. I want her to talk to me. I'm a single mom, it's super important.'
Sex and the City star Kristin Davis will use the show as a teaching tool for her kids when they get older. Sex and the City became a cultural phenomenon when it first aired on HBO back in June 1998. The show almost received critical acclaim in its early seasons, helping to increase the clout and popularity of HBO as a network. Sex and the City followed four women as they navigate life and love in New York City.
After joining the cast of Melrose Place in 1995, Davis won the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City three years later, a part she played in every episode of the show, as well as both movie spinoffs in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The actress also returned to the character for the highly-anticipated And Just Like That... series, which caught up with Charlotte after the events of the Sex and the City films left her happily married with two young daughters.
"Now that she's older and now that she's getting exposed from her friends to all this stuff, even though I'm very controlling… I'm thinking I'm going to use it as a teaching tool... I don't want her to feel embarrassed. I want her to talk to me. I'm a single mom, it's super important… gotta keep them talking. You know, Sex and the City is kind of a good educational type thing… for later.
TV shows often inform and inspire people, and can have a big influence on their lives as they grow, especially successful shows like Sex and the City. Since it first aired, the show has been viewed as a cultural watershed for female empowerment, love, dating, and sex. Given that, the important themes and subject matter explored in the show could certainly prove to be essential for helping young people navigate their formative years.
Some programs are generational in impact and influence, and remain profoundly popular years after they have ended. Sex and the City is one of these shows, and the decision to make and release a sequel series suggests that appetite for the program, and its beloved characters, remains as strong as ever. Introducing new generations to important shows can help to make a big difference in young people's lives, and HBO will hope And Just Like That...
