Sex assault charge against ex-Seton Hall basketball standout dropped as trial nears

Sexual assault charges against Michael Nzei, 28, now an executive with Goldman Sachs, were recently dropped.

All charges against a former Seton Hall basketball standout accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his Newark apartment more than two years ago have been dropped.

Nzei’s attorney, Patrick Toscano, of Caldwell, told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday that prosecutors voluntarily dismissed the charges “just days prior to the commencement of the trial.” A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to an email Tuesday seeking comment on the case. The woman told police she sat on a couch with Nzei and the two drank wine together and listened to music. She told police she rebuffed Nzei’s advances and then he sexually assaulted her, the affidavit states.
