For all of the reported failures of the foster care system, the children in care are not among them.

Dylan, 16, loves video and board games and enjoys participating in community events. He gets along well with others and loves to share.Elly Gribov, a photographer who was adopted as an infant and also has an adopted daughter and biological son with her husband, said she first asked the children simple questions about their favorite movie or Disney character.

But the Heart Gallery experience gives the children a chance to have fun and enjoy the moment. They are treated like kids, not foster care cases, as they often are. The Heart Gallery is making small but important changes. Since the program started, some 20 children have been adopted. There are now 12 professional volunteer photographers and 80 children in the program.

I would like to see the exhibit travel to many of the megachurches in Houston, where there are audiences of people who may have thought about expanding their families but don’t know where to start.
