Tens of thousands of gallons of sewage water spilled from a pump station in San Ysidro, California, earlier this week due to a pressure valve malfunction. The incident caused the station to be taken out of service, disrupting the flow of sewage water and leading to concerns about environmental impact.
SAN YSIDRO, Calif. - Tens of thousands of gallons of sewage water spilled from a pump station in the South Bay earlier this week.The United States International Water & Boundary Commission said on Wednesday night a pressure valve malfunctioned at the Hollister Street Pumping Station, sending 30,000 gallons of water out on Hollister Street.Crews were reported to have recovered 22,00 gallons from the spillage.
'As you can smell, it's not a Coors light beer commercial. This is highly concentrated and highly toxic,' Partlow said. 'It impacts the Tijuana River Valley, and as you can see they closed off a lot of the trails. It closes our beaches, and it denies us access to the beach.'Partlow checks the river gauge logs daily, which monitors water flow, and comes out to the collectors often to see for himself what's going on.
