Initial indications suggest speed was a factor in an alleged hit and run that killed a 43-year-old woman north of the Sunshine Coast overnight, police have said.

Emergency services arrived to find a "severely horrific scene", Senior Constable Matt Swan told media this morning.He said the woman was declared dead at the scene, with the Ford located by police a short time later. "The information that we've gathered at this time is the speeds were travelling well in excess of the sign-posted speed limit for that roadway.
