Wild winds are lashing Tasmania as a cold front crosses the island, with the severe weather predicted to last into Wednesday.
Power has been cut by fallen trees, while authorities are urging people in affected areas to prepare for possible flooding.Nearly 3,000 customers have been left without power across Tas mania as wild winds lashed the state and a cold front crossed the island overnight.
Westerly winds averaging 60 to 70 kph with peak gusts of around 100 kph are expected to continue about western and northern coasts during Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, about 500 customers from Franklin to Port Huon were without power due to fallen lines, with smaller outages elsewhere in the region."The wind and developing rain conditions will likely continue throughout the week," acting SES assistant director Cheryl Ames said.
