Bureau of Meteorology has issued three warnings for severe weather across Victoria as massive storm cells smashed into Melbourne on Friday morning, causing huge downpours.

Three weather warnings have been issued for severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and damaging winds across Victoria as large storm cells smashed into Melbourne on Friday morning.

A whopping 27mm was recorded at Gardiners Creek in Gardiner within the span of 30 minutes on Friday morning, while 35.2mm fell at Frankston in two hours to 11.45am. The areas under threat include the South West and Northern Country districts as well as parts of the Central, North Central, North East, Wimmera, Mallee and West and South Gippsland regions.“A deep low pressure system situated over southwestern Victoria is moving eastwards across southern Victoria, with a warm and humid airmass ahead of it, supporting the development of severe thunderstorms today,” the Bureau said.

Various roads have been impacted by the deluge in Melbourne with three outbound lanes closed on the Monash Freeway under the Toorak Road overpass due to flooding.
