Severe thunderstorms are expected in the Southern Plains on Sunday, then the Midwest into Monday. Forecast details:
The first round, beginning by early Sunday evening, could affect areas from southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri into parts of Texas. A few tornadoes are possible as this round gets going in central Oklahoma and northern Texas, but the threat will gradually become more wind- and hail-focused as the evening goes on.
A line or broken line of thunderstorms push eastward into eastern Oklahoma and northeastern Texas, along with portions of neighboring western Missouri and Arkansas, Sunday evening into early Monday morning. The main threat by this time will be strong to damaging wind gusts and large hail. This low pressure system will move into the Midwest on Monday with a chance of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms from the Great Lakes to the lower Ohio Valley.
For now, the most likely area to see a few thunderstorms is from southwestern Nebraska into western portions of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Typical for severe thunderstorm forecasts, there remains considerable uncertainty this far out in time. Precise timing, locations of peak threat and the magnitude of the severe threat are all key questions that will be answered in the coming days.
