The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire Chicago area, with wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour and large hail possible.
All of northeast Illinois, including McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties are included in the watch area. Kenosha County in Wisconsin, as well as Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana, are also included.A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for north-central McHenry County, and will remain in effect until 6:30 p.m.
According to NWS officials, golf ball-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour are possible with a storm, which was located near Woodstock and moving to the east at 15 miles per hour. Another warning was also issued for southern Lake County, which will remain in effect until 7 p.m. That storm is moving slowly to the east at 15 miles per hour, with half-dollar-size hail and winds up to 70 miles per hour. The storm could also produce an isolated tornado, and could impact Buffalo Grove, North Chicago and Mundelein.
A third warning was issued for northern Cook County until 7:15 p.m. Storms along a line from Wauconda to Barrington was moving to the southeast at 35 miles per hour.Wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are possible, along with half-dollar-size hail in Chicago, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Glenview, Buffalo Grove and O'Hare airport.Feeling out of the loop?
