Multiple weather alerts were issued across portions of the Chicago area on Sunday evening, as storms moved toward the region, bringing the possibility of damaging hail and fierce wind gusts.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southern Kendall, northern LaSalle, southern Will, northern Grundy and northeastern Kankakee counties until 8 p.m. According to the NWS, severe storms were located along a line extending from Mendota to near Grant Park, but were nearly stationary. People living in the aforementioned areas were advised to expect quarter-size hail, along with damage to vehicles.
Separately, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm watch for LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, Kendall and Will counties in Illinois, as well as Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana until midnight. According to the Storm Prediction Center, most of northern Illinois is at a “marginal” risk of severe weather on Sunday night, as is most of northwestern Indiana.
