West Texas will have a chance at severe weather early in the week, but chances will shift eastward by the middle of the week.
As we push into the last few days of April on our way into the month of May, it’s not uncommon for there to be at least some type of severe weather threat nearly everyday across Texas. The atmosphere is primed for storms, thanks to high Gulf moisture, as well as consistent atmospheric disturbances moving through from the west. That’s the set-up again this week.
That’s why the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 1 out of 5 risk severe storms for cities including Amarillo, Lubbock, and Midland. Severe storm threat increases Monday: A low pressure system is expected to move closer to Texas early next week, which will help to drive a higher chance of storms for a few spots across the state. The Storm Prediction Center will introduce a Level 2 out of 5 risk of severe weather, but it will still be areas across West Texas with the highest chances.
