The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has expanded the severe weather risk southward to include parts of South Texas. Hail is possible.
A risk for isolated storms capable of damaging winds and hail now includes northern Bexar County, as well as the Interstate 35 corridor northeast of San Antonio, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center. Areas now under a level 1 out of 5 risk of severe weather include the far North Side of San Antonio, Bulverde, Spring Branch, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, San Marcos and Fredericksburg. New model information shows that storms may develop as early as 3 p.m.
A few storms will be capable of severe weather, including quarter-sized hail and 60-mph wind gusts. However, a level 1 severe weather risk means that large hail will be isolated, and not all storms will become severe. Seek shelter if you encounter strong storms or if a severe thunderstorm warning is placed for your area. Most of San Antonio is not under the level 1 risk of severe storms. Still, a few isolated storms are possible.
