Eight people have been banned from receiving care
An apprentice was involved in a "severe" sexual incident at Nottingham's hospitals amid sky-rocketing instances of abuse. A total of 2,368 incidents of aggression, violence and harassment were reported across the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital between April 2023 and March this year.
While most caused little or no harm, there was one "severe harm" incident which was of a sexual nature and related to an apprentice who was under 18, board papers say. This incident was managed through NUH's HR and safeguarding policies but the trust said it was unable to comment further. The trust gave out 220 body-worn cameras to its staff in December in a bid to tackle "daily abuse", while also introducing a red and yellow card system. It has since given out eight red cards, which excludes patients from attending hospital for any other reason than emergency care.
A further 21 yellow cards were handed out, which are used as a final warning for patients and are reviewed once every six months. NUH said they had been dished out for reasons such as racist abuse, inappropriate sexual touching and throwing vomit and faeces. Thirteen of those are still active.
