At least three people were shot near UC Davis Saturday afternoon, according to Davis police. The shooting occurred at Community Park on 201 E. 14th St., around a mile north of the campus, university officials said.
There is a heavy police presence at the scene, and Davis police are asking people to avoid the area.The university said there is no credible threat to campus.A fourth person was injured in the melee, sustaining injuries after being trampled on. All four were taken to a hospital. The status of their conditions was not shared.Officers were already in the area because of the university's Picnic Day, an open-house celebration for current and prospective students, families, and alumni, that draws in thousands to the area, as part of the normal event operations, police said.It's unclear how many suspects are involved. At this time, no one has been arrested for the shooting.It's also unknown if anyone involved in the incident is affiliated with the university. The university acknowledged the shooting, saying they were "saddened" by the news."The incident occurred as thousands of people were enjoying the university’s annual student-led Picnic Day on campus, is even more disheartening," school officials said."We wish a full recovery for those individuals who were injured…We are checking in with our students to determine if any of those who were at Community Park today need support," school officials added.
