Several children in Northeast Ohio are in the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning, according to a University Hospitals spokesperson, as outages continue into its third day across the region.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Dr. Matthew Marx with University Hospitals says the carbon monoxide poisonings, which only happens a couple of times a year, could be correlated to the use of generators and grills indoors.
The children’s respective conditions are not currently known, but Dr. Marx says the victims are “school-age” kids.FirstEnergy spokeswoman Hannah Catlett previously said Tuesday’s storm, which produced four tornadoes and a macroburst, was the most impactful storm to hit The Illuminating Company service territory since July 1993, when a powerful line of thunderstorms caused power outages to approximately 300,000 customers. The Aug. 6, 2024 storm caused a peak of 470,000 outages.
