Several counties in central Ohio are under Severe Thunderstorm Watches until 10 p.m. Saturday night.
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Storms are moving through central Ohio and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Watches have been issued in the area for Saturday evening.Showers and storms started to fire up after the 4 p.m. hour around the region and we have already seen some of these storms go severe with large quarter-sized hail. The risk for more of these storms to turn severe from now through around 10 p.m. will continue as a line of showers and storms fires up and moves through the region.
Eastern portions of the 10TV viewing area are under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather, with the rest of our region under a level 1 out of 5 risk. The main factor this evening will be hail, but strong winds, localized flooding and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms will continue moving from the northwest to the southeast, pushing south of I-70 around 8 p.m. tonight. Storms will continue from there eventually exiting the region late this evening.
Sometimes an approaching tornado will sound like the roar of a train or airplane. If you see or hear a tornado, take cover immediately. Seek shelter inside, preferably below ground level. Do not waste time opening windows; tornado-force winds will"open" the windows well before the pressure difference can cause any structural damage. Above all, protect your head and lie flat.Get away from windows, doors and outside walls. Go to the basement.
