Seven members of the San José State University women's volleyball team entered the NCAA transfer portal following a season marked by controversy surrounding transgender player Blaire Fleming's participation. The departures come after several opponents declined to play against the team, resulting in six matches being awarded by forfeit.

Seven members of the San José State University women’s volleyball team entered the NCAA transfer portal at the end of the season, a school spokesperson told The National News Desk.

Their departures come after a season of controversy stemming from Blaire Fleming, a transgender player, being allowed to compete on the team. Fleming became the focus offiled by several women's volleyball players in the Mountain West Conference, including Brooke Slusser, a San José State player. The spokesperson confirmed the departing players are Nayeli Ti’a, Mari Lawton, Ava Martin, Laurel Barsocchini, Kiyana Faupula, Jade Epps and Teya Nguyen.

San José State won six matches by no contest this season as opponents declined to face them. The team advanced to its conference tournament championship over Thanksgiving weekend after Boise State withdrew from play.“Our team overcame forfeitures to earn a spot in the tournament field and fought for the win over Utah State in the first round on Wednesday.
