Cause of fire remains under investigation.
fire company, fire house, fire truckA fire destroyed a home in Franklin Township, Adams County Thursday morning, displacing three adults and four children.
Cashtown Community Fire Chief Jeff Bowling said one of the residents of the home at 5245 Chambersburg Road reported the fire at 8:55 a.m. after he saw flames working up an exterior wall from the area of a first-story addition to the home that is currently being used as a laundry room. All the residents that were home at the time were able to get out of the building safely, Bowling said, and there were no injuries.
By the time first fire crews arrived to the scene about eight miles west of Gettysburg, there was “heavy fire” showing on the front and left side of the house. Bowling said the cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time, but based on preliminary investigation he believes the point of origin was in the addition, and that it appears to be an accidental fire.
Cashtown was assisted at the scene by firefighters from a number of neighboring companies, and the last units cleared the scene at 11:08 a.m.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
