The Men in Sheds project in Daybrook boasts nearly 100 members
A service helping nearly 100 people in Nottinghamshire to avoid isolation and loneliness is on "borrowed time" after organisers were given just a few weeks' notice to clear their building. The Men in Sheds group, based in the Jubilee House Compound in Daybrook, has been running from various locations for 13 years.
This plan was then thrown into disarray when Gedling Borough Council told the group it in fact had to totally clear the building by the end of June. As it stands, the group will therefore be running its last session from its current venue on Thursday . An example of the community work carried out by Men in Sheds was on display when Nottinghamshire Live visited the group. Mr Bristeir and fellow volunteer Tony Tooley, 60, were working on a project for a man who had recently donated scores of tools to the workshop.
Maria Cooke, the strategic director of innovations and communications at Age UK Notts, said: "Obviously we're sad that the seven years that we've been in the shed has now come to an end, but we are very definitely committed to continuing the service. We do want to find another location so if anybody knows of anything that would be suitable in the area, we'd love to hear from them.
Mr Rumsey said: "We're sort of on borrowed time at the moment. It has come as very short notice that we do now have to be out of the building for the end of June.
