The Alvarazes looked at a dozen properties in Phoenix's Biltmore-Arcadia corridor. They saw houses and condos that spanned a broad price range.

Cynthia and Mike Alvarez are self-proclaimed serial movers. Cynthia has a track record of purchasing fixer-uppers, completely renovating them and then selling, she said.

Cynthia is a nurse practitioner, and Mike coaches tennis at the Village Health Clubs & Spas. They were looking to downsize because their kids are in their 20s and no longer living at home. “Cynthia has an incredible eye for design and spacial use in a house,” he said."She just loves fixing up homes and giving other people the opportunity to live in a place that is ideal. Her husband is amazing. He just supports her with whatever she wants.”

“It was old and pretty much original,” said Cynthia. “I normally like a fixer-upper, but it was going to be a big project.”Can my HOA force a DNA test on my dog?The Alvarazes had been eyeing this 1,034-square-foot property online. Located in the Dateland subdivision near Arcadia, it was a short drive to downtown Phoenix and surrounded by dining and shopping options.

“I really liked that little community,” said Cynthia. “My friend has a place in there, and it's very cute.”
