Lonnie Smith, a California man convicted of multiple counts of child molestation, was sentenced to 450 years to life in prison. The case involved three victims under the age of 13 and highlighted the severity of Smith's crimes.

A California man who prosecutors have labeled a serial child molester has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Lonnie Smith was recently found guilty on eight counts of child molestation stemming from multiple jurisdictions. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office stated that three victims were involved in these cases, all of whom were under the age of 13.

On Tuesday, the District Attorney's Office announced that Smith received a sentence of 450 years to life in prison, along with two counts of life without parole. Notably, Smith had previously served two prison sentences in 1983 and 1988 for convictions of lewd acts with a minor. The victims from those earlier cases were allowed to testify in court for the current proceedings. Prosecutors expressed regret over the less severe sentencing laws in the 1980s but celebrated the recent convictions and sentence. District Attorney Ron Frietas stated in a press release, 'This sentence is a thundering verdict against evil. We have not just closed a case; we've fortified our community against predators. Let this be known: in San Joaquin County, we do not merely pursue justice, we enforce it with unrelenting vigor.' Smith, who is 72 years old, was the subject of an investigation led by the Stockton Police Department
