Michal Šuľa sets a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance run on a treadmill in a week, covering 846.52 kilometers (526 miles) in six days and seven hours.

Serbian-Slovak ultrarunner Michal Šuľa kicked off the new year by setting a new world record for the longest distance run on a treadmill over a week. Inside a physical therapy clinic in Bratislava, Slovakia , Šuľa covered an astounding 846.52 kilometers (526 miles) in six days and seven hours, securing the title with a remarkable 17 hours to spare. This shattered the previous record of 843.94 kilometers (524.4 miles) held by U.K. runner Jamie McDonald since 2019.

His Guinness world record (pending verification) also surpassed the previous female seven-day treadmill world record of 846.16 kilometers (525.77 miles) set by New Zealander Emma Timmis in June 2024. Overlooking a view of sports jerseys hung on the wall and a collection of exercise balls and other fitness equipment, the 50-year-old maintained an average pace of 17 minutes per mile. This feat doesn't even account for bathroom breaks, sleep, food, and other necessary pauses. Šuľa livestreamed the entire challenge on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, offering viewers a glimpse into the grueling effort behind this unprecedented achievement. His feed showcased friends visiting Šuľa throughout his journey, sometimes running beside him on a second treadmill, and a whiteboard meticulously updated every hour, documenting his logged distance, with “sleep” diligently recorded for every dismount from the treadmill.Just weeks prior, on December 14, Šuľa broke the 6-hour treadmill world record, clocking in at 85.89 kilometers (53.36 miles), surpassing the previous April 2024 record of 53.05 kilometers (32.96 miles) set by Italy’s Luca Ricci. He is also a two-time Slovakian champion. In March 2024, Šuľa triumphed in the country’s 24-hour national championship, running an impressive 224 kilometers (139.1 miles), followed by a victory at the national 100-kilometer race in June, where he completed the course in 7:34:22, winning by almost an hour and a half. Šuľa’s achievements are even more remarkable considering he only started running in 2013, at the age of 38. According to the International Association of Ultrarunners, he completed his first ultramarathon in 2015
